1. summary: Climatology of Ocean Chlorophyll Amount (12 months) 2. created by: Bruce P. Briegleb and Steve Yeager 3. date and time: Jul 2009 4. created on: hail 5. dataset format: ieeer8 6. endian: big 7. archival copy location: /YEAGER/CHLOROPHYLL has all netcdf and ieeer8 and raw data for chlorophyll 8. creation summary: The monthly chlorophyll distributions were provided by Carter Ohlmann, , based on SeaWIFS data spanning the period of September 1997 to November 2001. Chlorophyll monthly distribution is provided over all ocean on a 1x1 degree resolution. There is no data available for sea ice covered oceans, and some regions have missing data due to clouds. To handle missing data (especially in the polar regions), a 1x1 topographic dataset is used to specify ocean points, with nearest-neighbor fill of missing data done twice, which fills isolated points and some points along ice edge. Next, all remaining points over ocean are filled with the value .05 mg/m^3, a value appropriate for ice melting conditions. Finally, all remaining (land) points are nearest-neighbor filled, which sets missing coastal values with reasonable chlorophyll amounts. The resulting filled data was interpolated to gx1 and gx3 ocean horizontal resolutions. 9. derived from: global_swfchl_monthly.nc /YEAGER/CHLOROPHYLL/filled.nc 10. code, scripts, namelists, etc, used to create this file: /fs/cgd/home0/yeager/ccsm_forcing/CHLOROPHYLL/chloro_fill.run /ccsm/ocn/yeager/scrip/mappings/map_ll1.0shifted_to_tx1v1nomask_bilin.nc 11. History: This version replaces chl_filled_tx1v1_20080506.ieeer8 which was generated on gale without setting /SWAP_END in the binary write in chloro_fill.run. Thus, the binary file was corrupt even though the netcdf version looked good.
