12 Feb 2004 The following datasets SOx_emissions_128x256_L2_1850-2000_c040130.nc SOx_emissions_32x64_L2_1850-2000_c040123.nc SOx_emissions_64x128_L2_1850-2000_c040129.nc were created Feb 2004 by Gary Strand (strandwg@ucar.edu). tools: Original historical sulfate ASCII data files are currently unavailable due to technical problems. Contact Steve Smith at 'ssmith@pnl.gov' for the latest lo- cation. An article about the data is available at http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/ccr/strandwg/ccsm/datasets/sulfur/SO2_Emissions_1850-2000.pdf Notes on original data: These files contain gridded SO2 emissions from 1850 - 2000 with annual resolution. The gridded emissions estimate is provided for each year, with emissions divided into four seasons and high and low for each season. The gridded emissions were derived from a historical reconstruction in 17 world regions. The emissions were gridded by region, height, season, and source category -- based on the EDGAR SO2 emissions grids. The source categories are: Coal, Oil, Nat Gas, Metal Smelting, Other Ind Proc, Trad Bio, Land-Use, Other. Further details, and the reference for this data, can be found in: Smith, et al. (2003) 'Historical Sulfur Dioxide Emissions 1850-2000', PNNL report (to be submitted for publication). These are updated and extended versions of emissions from: Smith, Steven J., et al. (2001) Historic and Regional Anthropogenic Sulfur Dioxide Emissions. Global and Planetary Change 29/1-2, pp 99-119.
